How to Take Care of Sterling Silver Jewellery
Sterling silver is beautiful, timeless, and durable—but it does need a little love to maintain its shine. Here’s how to keep your sterling silver pieces looking their best:
1. Wear It Often
Surprisingly, the best way to prevent tarnish is to wear your sterling silver regularly. The natural oils on your skin help keep it polished.
2. Avoid Chemicals
Keep your silver away from:
-
Perfumes & lotions
-
Hairsprays
-
Chlorinated water (pools, hot tubs)
-
Household cleaning agents
These can accelerate tarnishing and damage the metal over time.
3. Store It Properly
-
Use an anti-tarnish pouch or soft cloth bag
-
Keep pieces in separate compartments to avoid scratches
-
Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and humidity
4. Clean Gently
Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a special silver polishing cloth to gently rub the surface. For deeper cleaning:
-
Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water
-
Soak for a few minutes
-
Rinse well and dry with a soft cloth
Avoid harsh scrubbing or abrasive cleaners.
5. Polish Periodically
If your piece looks dull, use a non-abrasive silver polish (available at most jewellery stores). Follow instructions carefully and always test on a small area first.
✨ With proper care, your sterling silver jewellery from Saras Beads & Jewellery will stay radiant and beautiful for years to come.
A Historic and Contemporary Overview
Palestine is a region of profound historical, cultural, and spiritual importance, situated in the eastern Mediterranean and encompassing parts of what are today Israel and the Palestinian territories – namely the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem. The area has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years and is considered sacred by the three major Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
In ancient times, it was home to a succession of civilisations and empires, including the Canaanites, Israelites, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans. During the early 20th century, following the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the region came under British administration under the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine (1920–1948). This period saw increased tensions between the Arab Palestinian population and Jewish immigrants, particularly as Zionist aspirations for a Jewish homeland gained international support, notably through the Balfour Declaration of 1917.
The 1948 Arab-Israeli War, following the creation of the State of Israel, led to the Nakba (Arabic for "catastrophe"), during which over 700,000 Palestinians were displaced from their homes. Since then, the status of Palestine has been at the heart of one of the most enduring and complex conflicts in modern history.
Today, Palestine refers to the territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, where over 5 million Palestinians live, many under military occupation or blockade. The Palestinian Authority administers parts of the West Bank, while Hamas governs the Gaza Strip. Despite ongoing efforts by the international community to broker a two-state solution, a lasting peace agreement has not yet been achieved.
In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to grant Palestine non-member observer state status, recognising Palestinian statehood in principle, although many major powers remain divided on the issue.
Palestine is not only politically significant but also rich in culture, heritage, and resilience. Palestinian identity is strongly tied to the land, family, hospitality, traditional crafts, and the enduring struggle for self-determination and dignity.
